Review  Over the years, movie studios have been flooded with rip off scare tactic horror films in an attempt to embezzle teenage disposable income. Whether it’s a remake of some meaningless bore or an unoriginal creation, they’d rely on one hook scene in the trailer to attract its viewers. Now enter the highly on purpose horror comedy. This is a newer less familiar genre which basically removes all the horror, but remains in the category, based on its amount of gore or unrealistic uncontained fluids. “Zombieland” takes the ass kicking star of “Natural Born Killers”, Woody Harrelson, and gives him nothing but permission to destroy countless amounts of big screen butt.

Since zombies aren’t a specific culture or gender, no one gets offended or insulted, like the Cavemen in the Geico commercials. Neither exists. And no, even though real life murderer Eric Rudolph lived in a cave, he wasn’t actually a caveman. The filmmakers try the odd couple approach to casting. They sign Harrelson as Tallahassee, the sort of guy that looks like a f**k up destined to cause harm. He’s the truck driving, toothpick chewing, red neck supporting impulse assaulter. Jesse Eisenberg was the Michael Cera character before Michael Cera was even Michael Cera. This means he was born to play the passive, awkward, neurotic geek. See “Roger Dodger!” Jesse plays a reserved loner called Columbus. His survival skills are based on a list for minimizing personal risk.

Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin join geographical killing floor as sisters Wichita and Little Rock. They give the men a hard time since they have irreparable trust issues. Emma Stone has the appearance of Fairuza Balk mixed with Parker Posey. She’s the girl next door with gothic tendencies. Abigail Breslin is fast becoming the new Dakota Fanning. She gets to practice being a tart demander as the older than her years tiny gangster. This film is designed as a comedy while using the disguise of a traditional horror picture. It’s also a video game with live action questionable heroes. A portion of this bloody tale is a coming of age story for the timid male.

“Zombieland” is blatantly campy. The best part of the feature is Bill Murray’s cameo as Bill Murray. The advertisers were wise to hide this from the previews. It’s a shame his screen time couldn’t be increased. He served his purpose. Eisenberg can carry the narration of a flick since he’s easily likable and relatable. “Zombieland” has very little plot besides comical murdering and tail chasing. It’s not scary, has a few laughs and slightly different from its common peers. It is only eighty-one minutes of mindless vaporization of former humans. Its better that you see this than have some moron imitate the actions in real life. No, I suppose that’s not a solid enough selling remark.
